A hired boat may be skippered without a licence with a charter certificate after the operator's briefing, only in the areas released for this and with the boat certificate of the waterways and shipping office on board. Fixed bridges are often only 3.5 to 4.5 m high: with the mast up only the lakes are open, on canals and rivers the mast is lowered.
