Clearing in: The only port is Aqaba at the northern end of the Gulf of Aqaba. Before the approach, call Aqaba Port Control on VHF channel 16; clearance takes place at the Royal Aqaba Yacht Club or Ayla Marina with immigration, customs and the port authority. Germans get the visa on arrival or with the Jordan Pass; Aqaba is a special economic zone (ASEZA) with its own rules for visas and customs.

Ausreise: Clear out before every passage to Israel or Egypt: Aqaba, Eilat and Taba are only a few kilometres apart.

Documents: Passport valid for another six months, boat papers, insurance, crew list, clearance from the last port.

Fees: Berthing fees in the marinas (Royal Aqaba Yacht Club, Ayla Marina, Tala Bay); visa on arrival or via the Jordan Pass.

Fairway: The Gulf of Aqaba is narrow and more than 1,000 m deep; there are hardly any anchorages. Off Aqaba lie the commercial port and roadstead; the maritime borders with Israel and Saudi Arabia are a few kilometres away. Often a strong north wind in the afternoon.

Nature: Aqaba Marine Park on the south coast: anchoring and fishing prohibited.

Emergency: 911; Aqaba Port Control on VHF channel 16.
