Rules on the lake
St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair and Detroit River: The St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River link Lakes Huron and Erie without a lock. In the St. Clair River the current runs at about 6 km/h at the Blue Water Bridge, elsewhere around 2 to 3 km/h; commercial shipping uses the buoyed channel, pleasure craft keep beside it. The large bridges are over 40 m high, the MacArthur Bridge to Belle Isle 9.1 m; in the Trenton Channel the swing bridges to Grosse Ile open on signal (12 hours' notice from 15 December to 31 March). The river is the border between Canada and the USA: boats only passing through do not report; anyone who lands or anchors in the other country reports at once (Canada to the CBSA, +1 888-226-7277; USA through the CBP ROAM app).
