Formalities

EU memberSchengen AreaEU customs unionCurrency: Swedish krona

Clearing in: No clearance within the Schengen area.

Documents: No general licence requirement for smaller pleasure craft; SRC applies for the radio. Boat papers and insurance on board.

Fees: Gästhamnsavgift (visitor harbour fee) per night, often by app or machine. Natural harbours are often free; landing follows the right of public access (Allemansrätten) with respect for private land.

Fairway: Skerry fairways with narrow channels: the chart is authoritative, this site's route network does not resolve narrow skerries. Naval firing exercise areas are extensive and are avoided here as a precaution.

Inland waters: Göta kanal and Trollhätte kanal with canal or lock fees, locks operated only in season; Vänern and Vättern with sea states like at sea.

Nature: Bird sanctuaries (fågelskyddsområde) with bans on access and often navigation, usually from February to mid-August; the periods are set by the relevant Länsstyrelse and shown on the chart. Nature reserves in the archipelago have their own rules.

Emergency: 112; JRCC Sweden (Gothenburg), VHF channel 16 and DSC.
